Data security is becoming an increasingly important concern for healthcare organizations. For more than 15 years, HIPAA has been regulating the privacy and security of electronic protected health information (ePHI) utilized by health plans, healthcare clearinghouses, and healthcare providers. The scope of that regulation was extended with the passing of the HITECH Act in 2009. Now compliance with the final HIPAA Omnibus Rule is mandated for these covered entities as well as their third-party vendors (business associates). Failure to comply can lead to civil and criminal penalties for healthcare organizations and their business associates.
Healthcare providers, payers, clearinghouses, exchanges, and a variety of service providers to the healthcare industry are under increased pressure to demonstrate their compliance with the security and privacy requirements of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996 and the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act of 2009.
When breaches occur, the OCR typically conducts an investigation into the root cause of the breach. Many breach investigations are closed with corrective actions focused on the narrow set of issues that led to the impermissible disclosure. However, when breaches occur due to an organizations willful neglect of HIPAA/HITECH compliance, civil monetary penalties are usually applied and can reach $1.5 million per provision violated. Such penalties are widely publicized in the media.
The HITECH Act introduced the requirement to report breaches should protected health information (PHI) be lost or compromised, increased fines and penalties for non-compliance, and applied the current HIPAA privacy and security laws directly to business associates of covered entities. This latter change allows the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office of Civil Rights (OCR) to enforce HIPAA directly against business associates, rather than through their covered entities. Our Network Audit Process provides a review of your servers, workstations and network, incorporating both internal reporting tools and external penetration testing. This audit satisfies HIPAA requirements. More virtual machines are deployed now than physical, on-premise machines. Virtualization is one of the top 5 healthcare IT trends and the healthcare cloud is here to stay. How can you capitalize on the promise of the cloud?
AuditSolv takes advantage of Intel Advanced Encryption Standard-New Instructions (Intel AES-NI) to improve the security of sensitive data while increasing cryptographic performance by more than 60% over other encryption methods.
Why? Because they have already seen what is required to get the job done, so they understand the nuances of HIPAA privacy, health data security and mission critical uptime. Patient care never sleeps and neither should your cloud vendor.
The last thing you want to do is move processing to a third party and find out they're either going to be acquired or just dissolve. Because at that point you have even bigger problems, especially when it comes to getting your data moved and keeping it secure.
Partnered with Datto, AuditSolv provides the only cloud platform and recovery as a service solution built from the ground up with business continuity in mind
